Meet Bree Mateljan, the artist behind Pencil Pawtraits.
I’ve never been too far from a drawing implement, nor an animal companion since I could stand on my own two feet (and hold a pencil). Whether it was my fluffy companions or friends pets, I’ve always loved capturing in drawings and sketches the personalities of our furry little friends. I love drawing animal portraits and showcasing their unique personalities through a visual medium such as illustration in vibrant colour.
All of my pet portrait illustrations are hand-drawn by myself using the highest quality artist’s pencils and paper stock, and while I’m based in Australia, I’m more than happy to work with clients anywhere in the world; all I need is a photo of your furry friend to get started!

SIZES & PRICING
CHOOSE FROM FOUR DIFFERENT SIZES TO SUIT YOUR
OWN UNIQUE PENCIL PAWTRAIT COMMISSION
Each hand-drawn Pencil Pawtraits commissioned artwork is illustrated just for you and based upon your favourite photographs of your furry friend.
It is a one-of-a-kind artwork drawn using artist’s quality materials on 100% cotton archival paper.
Please note that each price reflects a single subject pet pawtrait.
Pricing is upon application for multiple subjects in a single pawtrait piece.
a5 SIZE - $300 AUD
A small size, perfect for a memorial piece or gift.
A5 measures 148mm x 210mm and is half size of the A4. Suitable for single pet pawtraits only.
a4 SIZE - $350 AUD
Where it all began. The A4 measures 210mm x 297mm and is the most common paper size in many countries. Suitable for single pet pawtraits or small double pawtrait.
a3 SIZE - $450 AUD
Measuring 420mm x 297mm, this size is perfect for a single or double pet pawtraits.
SQUARE - $525 AUD
The Square measures 420mm x 420mm and is suited for up to 5 pets in the same pawtrait, but can also work well for a single or double pet pawtrait if size and impact is paramount.

The Pawtrait Process.
You may have figured out by now that I draw pets. Pets and beloved furry companions like yours. But how? Where does it all start? What steps do my clients and I go through in order to bring their pawtrait from photograph to a hand-drawn colour illustration?

Step One.
Email a photo of your furry little friend to pencilpawtrait@gmail.com.
The higher quality, the better! If you have a desired deadline for completion and receiving your pawtrait, don’t forget to let me know. Please note at times there may be a waiting list, but I will confirm timeframes with you.
Step TWO.
Once your commission booking is locked in, I take a $50-$100 deposit to get underway
(This is deducted from the final total at completion and will be reflected on your final invoice)
Step THREE.
That’s it! Your booking is confirmed and I’ll get started on drawing your pet as soon as I can. When the piece is completed, I’ll send a final proof and your final invoice. Once I have received your final payment, I can mail out your physical commission to you. (please note that postage will be calculated at final billing and added onto the total). As a bonus, once everything is finished, I’m more than happy to supply some progress photos for you at no extra cost.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS.
IS FRAMING PROVIDED WITH THE FINISHED PAWTRAIT?
Framing is not included. I know that each household has their own taste in decor and framing styles, so I would prefer to give you my artwork and you can find a suitable frame at your leisure. This is a big reason I like to keep my artwork to standard International paper sizes (A4/A3) for you to find that ideal frame that speaks to you and your design sensibilities.
I HAVE lots of photos of my pet, but i’m not sure which to choose?
Who doesn’t have lots of photos of their pets?! You’re welcome to send through as many as you’d like and I can work with you on selecting the perfect one to suit the dimensions, and of course the tone or mood you feel says so much about your companion. Photos that are of a high resolution and in focus are insisted upon as they are more detailed. More detail in the reference means less guesswork in your pawtrait.
can i purchase a gift certificate for a friend?
You definitely can!
Just drop me a line via email to pencilpawtrait@gmail.com and I’ll be able to send through the information, along with something little you can print out for the person for whom you’re purchasing the gift.
will my pawtrait fade and deteriorate?
In my quest to make sure your pawtraits are safe from degradation and fading over time, I use archival quality 100% cotton paper. At present, I use exclusively Faber-Castell Polychromos artist’s colour pencils for my work. If you’re wanting to be super technical, Faber-Castell have tested these particular pencils for their lightfastness and 102 of their 120 colour range are rated maximum lightfastness with maximum fade resistance of 100+ years. I’d say that’s pretty amazing, wouldn’t you?
